Installation

No audio or network in Lion

  • mrjanek
THIS APPLIES TO KAKEWALK 4.0 USERS. THIS SHOULD BE FIXED IN KAKEWALK 4.0.1

I've seen a few posts about not getting any audio output or network access after installing Kakewalk.

Both sound and network should work after installing Kakewalk.
If you don't get any sound or network access, please try the following:

    1. Open a Terminal window
    2. Type, sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/
    3. Wait for 5 minutes and then reboot.

Please report back if this doesn't help.

  • So out of the box, I had no network or audio. When I installed Kakewalk to the hard drive, network and audio showed up and worked without rebooting. After a reboot, network stays but audio is gone. I can re-install Kakewalk to the hard drive and audio will come back until I reboot again. This is the same behavior for me with 4.0 and 4.0.1. Steps listed above made no difference. My board is a GA-EP45-UD3P and my video card is an nVidia 9800GTX+

    NO Kernel Panic
  • I also installed with Kakewalk 4.0 on a Gigabyte EX58-UD5 ( on my SSD with a separate 8gig partition... better than on USB ) and had no sound or network. Btw isn't cakewalk suppose to have or install Chameleon? As much as I can remember Kakewalk 2.2 used to have it in a folder but 4.0 doesn't . So What I done I had to run the package from the Kakewalk CD 2.2 directory and then run a lion compatible Chameleon to be able to boot in Normal Mode otherwise it will boot slow and I think in safe mode. BTW I have now also installed the 10.7.2 dev update and all works sweet.

Just uploaded a new build that should hopefully put an end to this issue.
You'll find the new build on the download page as "Kakewalk 4.0.1"

  • Thanks for Kakewalk! But i'm having trouble with the audio as well. I'm also trying to set up my wi-fi PCI card. Not sure if that possible though.

Installed Kakewalk for Lion (4.0.1). Install worked well.
    My build: GA-P55M-UD2, Core i5-750, GeForce 9800 GT, 8 GB RAM, 1TB HDD, DVD-RW
Extras attached: Wi-Fi PCI card (WMP600N), PCI USB 3.0 Card, Blu-ray drive.

The display appears to work fine, but there is no sound. I'm also trying to go wireless for internet.

If anyone can help, thanks in advance!

I tried using Multibeast, but no luck. I'm not sure I get it after using Kakewalk.

    @mercury24
Have you tried using the latest build of Kakewalk?
The one I uploaded a few hours ago.

Thank you for your help and all the work.

Yes, I think so. I downloaded the 4.0.1. I did not try the first tip on this page since it applies to 4.0 only.

  • Tried 4.0.1 on GA EP45 UD3P. Install flawless, rest similar to @jimbojsb. Audio and network started to work without reboot, after reboot network stays, audio disappears. Sleep does not work.

Every subsequent boot gives a "ERROR: Unable to find SMBIOS! Press any key to continue..." This stays for a minute or two then the boot continues. .

Tried to 4.0 trick to "sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/". Did not make any difference.

  • I have the same and other problems..

    i7 2600K
    Gigabyte Z68MX-ud2h-b3 Bios F5
    Nvidia GT 430

Had to remove video card to get into lion.. After kakewalk from lion the video card would still not work but i fixed that by using natit.kext. Still trying to fix the audio & networking.

  • I have EP45-UD3P. Installation went like dream, the best Hackintosh installation yet, and I have tried a few.... Similar problem as jimbojsb. After installation from USB, audio working, no ethernet. Ran Kakewalk to install support to Lion and no audio after reboot, but ethernet OK. Any help on audio would be great. Don't want to start installing random other kexts as may impact stability? Thanks

  • The install went really well on my EP-45-UD3P also. I too had audio working but it stopped after a reboot. Also at the end of the Kakewalk installer it said the installation was fine but something with permissions went wrong and instructed me to repair mine (which I did).

Again thanks for the hard work this is some seriously cool stuff.

    My specs -

    E8400
    EP45-UD3P
    Nvidia 9800GT
    8gb of the cheap ram

  • Found a solution. From what I read on some forum of HDMI audio was introduced into the AppleHDA kext hence the issue with lion. I downloaded multibeast 3.8 from tonymacx86 forum. These were the options I selected:

    Under Drivers & Bootloaders > Audio ? Realtek ALC8xx >
    - Check ALC8xxHDA, AppleHDA Rollback

    Under the NON-DSDT HDAEnabler section
    - Check ALC885/899a

Also Checked off rebuild Caches and repair permissions under system utilities.

Audio worked a few seconds after the install. Also working after two restarts!

My Optical out still doesn't work but I can live with that. Hope this helps your guys with EP45-UD3Ps.

  • using EP45-DS3R which has similar, if not identical, specs as EP45-UD3P. Installation perfect, sees both Ethernet ports, but no audio. tried touch, no luck, updated using 4.0.1, still no audio, tried touch again, still no luck. any advice, going to try Multibeast 3.8. just tried B 3.8, no luck there either.
