Hello All, I received the following error when using my Lion Installer from the applications folder. Also received the same error with the InstallESD.dmg from the package contents.
Error Failed to restore BaseSystem.dmg. Please try again.
First of all, I am very thankful for your release. But there are some problems.
After successful install I can boot with kakewalk USB, but I can't install kakewalk to the computer, because there is no ethernet connection. Also sound is missing and graphic is limited to 1024x768. I have GA-EP45-UD3LR.
@armacell That's odd. The application will actually copy files to the USB stick so that you can install even if there is no network connection. Sound, network access will be available after you install to your computer. Be sure to follow the installation guide.
Ive bought the original Lion My restore time on USB is about 7 minutes. Then i select my Motherboard GA EX58-UD5 Boot normally, then at the message PCI configuration begin the machine stood still.
No Download from App Store,We could not complete your purchase,This version of osx 10.7 cannot be installed on this computer,Same model & info as above Model =macPro3,1 64 bit enables-=64 any ideas besides wait for flash drive copy for aprox 69.xx in aug ?
Kakewalk saves a log file called "kakewalk.log" in the root of your current Mac OS X installation. Send the contents of that text file to me in a message.
Ok, I got past the "Error Failed to restore BaseSystem.dmg. Please try again." message.
What you have to do is format your USB stick as a standard OSX format with 1 partition. Do nothing else to the USB drive or it may give that error again.
But not I have a new error. After install completes, I reboot, pick USB, then select my Lion drive it boots fine, finish the installation with my user name, etc. However when I try to install Kakewalk to my drive following the instructions, it fails. Says "Error Failed to install applehda.pkg to target. Restart the application and try again."
I have done that about 10 times and still says that. Even rebooted and tried again. I have no network or sound either.
Ok, found all the problems. On your USB thumb drive, initial format must not contain any spaces in the file name. Also when you create your OSX Lion install partition on the HD, don't use any spaces there either. Spaces causes the install apps to fail.
Apple isn't checking for serial numbers, they test for compatibility issues. So something in your patched DSDT file is causing the failure. If you have access to Virtual Machine software and OSX Server you could install that in a VM, then download from there.
lotw,Thanks for the reply,Sorry I do not have access to vms or osx server.System Board is Gigabyte ,GA-x58a-ud5, Nvidia 280 ,6gb ram i7 930 Thanks, Fredr
I have that same motherboard as you. The only difference is I have the MSI R5770 Ati video card, 8g ram, and Core i7 920. That machine also fails downloading the OSX Lion software, even though I already Purchased on a real Mac.
Looks like Apple has made the Virtual machine method fail. I tried my VM and it will no longer log into the Mac App Store.
After I get my machine working right, I will try and see if a fresh installation of OSX Server will fix that problem. This kind of makes me glad I have a Mac Mini also. That is how I got my Lion.
Would also like to thank mrjanek for creating this awesome app.
Another one here with the "This version of Mac OS X 10.7 cannot be installed on this computer" message from the app store.

Just did Clean install snow leopard to new hd w Kakewalk 3.1 usb.updated to 10.6.8. goto apps store message is the same error Could not complete your purchase 10.7 cannot be installed on this computer ?
@fredr It could be related to the smbios.plist. The app store probably evaluates your computer to see if Lion will work on it. I'll investigate later when I've fixed the issues with the Kakewalk app.
Looking at this https://discussions.apple.com/message/15663631#15663631 it seems that we could replace the OSINSTALL.MPKG in the installer with the one I linked to in my previous post. (?) I will download Lion from a 'real' mac tomorrow and try it out.
The problem trying to download OSX Lion from the App store seems to be a common one among Hackintoshes. Some older Intel based Mac also have the same problem. The trick is to get a SMB and DSDT file correct to the check imposed by the App store work. On a side note so far with my testing the killed the ability for the app store to work in a VM with OSX 10.6.8 Server also.
If download on a real Mac that is above the specs you will have no problem getting OSX Lion. If HD or another spec is close are just a hair shy failure will happen.
It is stupid for Apple to be this way with the update, as it will make people find other ways to get OSX Lion then from the App store.
Just uploaded a build of Kakewalk that should fix the issues with spaces and also applehda installation. Download it through the regular Kakewalk 4 download link.
Thanks Everyone for the Info,Still trying to find the right combo for the download at the App store. But i'll Wait til it comes out on flash drive from apple in aug,(If there is no other Way and I have to ) May contact a friend with a real mac and Buy a copy ! Still Working On it! On side Note mrjanek Thank YOU for the hackmac I have been using for a year now,THANK YOU! Fredr
What error are you talking about with the EX58-UD5? I have the same motherboard and if you followed the instructions in the PDF file you should have no problems. You have to make sure you BIOS is set up right and that you are booting from the USB flash drive when you boot for the 1st time after you get OSX Lion installed, press enter when timer is counting down and select your HD you installed it to.
@lotw 1. Prepare USB Drive with Lion and Kakewalk (No Errors) 2. Boot from USB Drive ( a many Lines shown loading Kext and so on) 3. The Screeen turn from Grey to Black and hang at prompt "PCI configuration begin"
my system is 10.6.8 Kakewalk system, probably something in the dsdt or smbios but I have not found any combination that worked. so, I got fed up with it and just downloaded on my MBP, created a DVD from the DMG, install Lion on a new SSD, installed chameleon 1078, added my DSDT to Extra and the kext's I needed and put it in my machine, all Lion goodness.
I'm having precisely the same trouble as hodidl on a GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3. USB stick builds fine, then I get a hang on "PCI configuration begin" while loading the installer.
