I've posted this thread in the hopes to gather everyone with this problem so we can resolve it. If your unaware of the issue described in the title, some of the P45 motherboards cause a kernel panic on installation of the 10.7.2 update. More precisely, when the installer attempts to move the updated system files into place.
I've tried installing the update twice via the software update menu. Both times have failed. I did not remove the kexts added by kakewalk.
If you are also having this problem I have one request before you submit a post. Please post the processor, motherboard, and graphics card you are using. This way we can rule out hardware as the issue.
Potential issues: - smbois.plist - kakewalk kexts (will expand on this if we get into specifics) - Chameleon Boot Loader - Hardware (I really really hope not)
Good luck to everyone, I hope we can figure this one out soon. I'm really looking forward to iCloud support as I'm sure you all are aswell.
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual E6500 (OC to 3.3GHz) MB: EP45-UD3L GRP: Power Color Radeon H6450 RAM: 4GB DDR2 (OC to 900MHz)
worked perfectly for 10.7.1 + QE CI same issues KP for combo update or software update, about 4minutes to GO KP.
Then tried installing iAktos L1, 10.7.1, no problems. upgrade 10.7.2 fine. however NO iCloud!!! The account is a valid Apple ID but not iCloud account BS. actually if you type any rubbish as username and any one alphabetc as password u get the same crap error.
tried lots of way round, incl del all system pref's network settings and plists, adding builtinethernet to boot.plist. no joy. tried r1394, no fun, tried r1656, no good. that is as far as 10.7.2 i have been. apart from iCloud multfunctions, everything is charming, performance feels increased.
After the initial install, my boot would hang at [ PCI Configuration Begin ]. No error or KP, but it would just sit there indefinitely. I did the following things:
Unfortunately, I'm not sure which of these things were actually necessary. On successful boot, I had to rollback AppleHDA.kext, but that was it. The following issues remain:
1) My computer still stalls at [PCI Configuration Begin] for as much as two minutes, but eventually works through it. 2) I haven't gotten iCloud to work, but I haven't really looked into it yet either. Not sure about FaceTime, as I don't own a usb camera. 3) I am still not able (and never have been able) to get Chameleon/Chimera to install properly on my 2TB Caviar Green drive. Instead, I have to install to a USB disk and then boot from there. I suspect this is actually an issue of compatability with the drive, though, and I haven't been able to make it work.
